Without sounding too impressed with myself I need to say that I know rather a lot about headphones. I have gone through many different brands and used many different models from each. After all my looking for the ultimate headphones I have both found what makes the ultimate headphones as well as why some popular designs will never succeed.

If you're planning on purchasing headphones online make sure you go to a store first and try some on. The fit is the most vital part of your headphones and it isn't an aweful idea to check the sound while you are at it. Please do not be one of the hip iPod headphones users who still use the white ear buds that come with the iPod. The iPod is over ten years old and they use those atrocious ear buds. They don't fit anyone's ears and constantly fall out.

Headphone manufacturers that market the quality of the sound generally are not the ideal solution. I really do not care how good your headphones sound if they feel uncomfortable and fall off each and every ten seconds. Even ear bud companies try and brag about the high quality of the tiny speakers and amplifiers they use but it actually doesn't matter and here is why. 99% of headphones users are listening to an iPod, iPhone or some other tiny digital portable device that has compressed the music to fit on it.

Generally speaking iPod mp3 sound is not that good because it has been compressed but 99% of the population can't notice the difference. In a home theatre setting with blueray discs or using hi fi installers I admit it is easy to hear the difference in sound quality but this isn't as true with headphones. Even DVDs compress the sound to fit a giant video file on 4 GB.

Many people would prefer over the ear headphones and some would rather have earphone buds. Personally I think that both have their advantages and drawbacks. If you will be flying on a plane or traveling in a motionless position I recommend using over the ear headphones. Sound cancelling headphones are the best satisfaction but make sure they are cushy as even enormous costly headphones can pinch ears and become uncomfortable in time. If you plan on moving about a lot than ear buds are the better choice. I used to compete in snowboarding and ear buds always worked for me but when I travelled between contests I could not get by without my noise cancelling over the ear headphones.

To get a store that sells headphone stores near you check dLook, Australia's local internet business directory.

Many people that participate in sports like to wear headphones so they can listen to their favorite music while having no distractions. Music is motivational. It can get you psyched up for a practice or that big rivalry game. When selecting the best sport headphones, look for certain things.

Make sure when buying headphones, you are taking in consideration the kind of sport you are involved in. You may be a home exerciser, a runner, a weightlifter, or any other sanctioned sports. But, in any case, you are wanting good fitting headphones that will sit on your head snugly without being too tight. Earbud headphones are good for any sporting event, just make sure they do not pop out of your ears.

You are also going to want to make sure that as you are working out, the sound quality is very good and it is going to be loud enough. You aren't wanting to listen to outside noises with your music. In addition, you are going to have to make sure that your headphones are sweat proof.

Most athlete move around a lot. They are usually quick and fast with any number of movements in between. Any headphones you purchase need to be sturdy and not made of any cheap materials. They get dropped, many times on concrete, and need to last.

If you are a runner, then you are going to want very comfortable headphones. Not only that, your headphones must be a size that will be able to fit underneath a stocking cap if you like to run in cold weather.

An added benefit to some sport headphones is that they have the music and volume controls in the cord. This has been done so that you don't have to fool around with the controls on the side of the music device. This is a very smart feature.

It is so important that the cord from the headphone to the music device is short enough so that you can enjoy your music without getting caught up in any movements you are performing. Also, you want them long enough so that you don't have them popping out of your music device.

In selecting the best sport headphones, you are going to want to do a little shopping around. Make sure that they fit your needs. Make sure they are sturdy, durable, comfortable, and sweat proof so you can enjoy them for a long time.

Apple's iPod continues to be the most popular MP3 player with consumers but it is still shipped with a cheap set of earphones. If you have tried to listen to music on them for any length of time you will know that they start to hurt after awhile. They also don't have too good a sound quality compared to more expensive earphones.

If you fly a lot in airplanes, you might have seen people using noise-canceling headphones. This type of headphone makes any trip more enjoyable as you don't have to listen to the constant droning of the airplane engines. They give you great sound quality too, but they are rather expensive. Most people just opt to use regular earphones with their iPod and this is whether they are flying or not.

If you do want to get a better pair of earphones, you need to figure out how much you are willing to spend. You also have to figure out what is most important to you: comfort or sound? To some people, the best sound is all that matters and they are seeking earphones that give them that quality. To others, they might be willing to sacrifice a little sound quality if they could find earphones that feel exactly right in their ears. Finding that perfect set of earphones though, might be difficult.

If you are looking for the very best earphones on the market, be prepared to shell out quite a lot of money. Earphones for your mp3 player seem to run from about $20 all the way up to $400 or so now days which is an incredibly big spread.

For the everyday person, the best choice of earphones is probably ones that cost between $20 and $100. For that price, you can get a pair that gives you a good sound quality as well as the comfort you desire. Unfortunately, many earphones come wrapped in a strong plastic packaging and there might be no way to try them first. This might present a problem if you are trying to find ones that you think will be comfortable.
